Committed to its responsible operation and the goal of sustainable hospitality, Mitsis Hotels proudly presents its new CSR programme entitled ‘A story of change’. The programme is built upon 5 key thematic pillars that exemplify the Group’s values and aspiration to act as a role model for sustainable tourism development in the country, contributing 5% of its annual net profit to social and philanthropic initiatives.

COMMITTED TO OUR SURROUNDINGS

With a notable presence across Greece, we are responsible to give back to the communities that nurture us and we acknowledge that our progress is interlined with the prosperity of our 5 unique destinations. We empower local communities by focusing on local recruitment, aiming for 75% of our employees to be residents of our destinations by 2025, and we support the local primary sector by providing over 15 million euros annually to 140 local producers and suppliers. We proudly sponsor local events and support local residents in times of crisis, offering financial and in-kind assistance to earthquake, fire and other disaster victims of our destinations. We also collaborate with distinguished NGOs, including our long-term partnerships with HOPEgenesis, Make-A-Wish Greece and The Ark of the World, while the establishment of the Blood Donor Volunteer Association ‘Mitsis Group of Companies’ with the participation of our employees and guests makes a valuable contribution to the blood banks of our destinations.

At Mitsis Hotels, we are enchanted with our Greek history, making the most of our impeccable Greek essence and embodying the values of being a proud Greek: Mediterranean life, culture and history. We aim to bring tradition alive, highlighting our destinations’ historical places and monuments, sponsoring cultural festivals and encouraging the participation of our guests and employees. Through our distinguished F&B outlets and local purchasing policy, we aim to showcase local gastronomy and expose guests to local culinary tastes. Simultaneously, we collaborate with Marketing Greece to upgrade the qualitative aspects of Greek tourism and promote the country as an attractive destination.

Being home to 4,000 employees and 350,000 guests annually, we aspire to be flexible and adaptable to individual needs and celebrate the uniqueness of each individual. Enriched by everyone, we aim to enhance diversity, support female empowerment and foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for our employees and guests. We target increasing the number of women in managerial positions to 40% in the next years and provide employee care by developing a holistic benefit programme for our team members and their families.

In the light of a new era in the tourism industry and always seeking to adjust to the mindset of new generations, we aim to be a leading force of change and innovation. We are committed to our employees’ personal and professional development, offering extensive and ongoing training, workshops and seminars across all departments. We aim to support the young talents of our destinations, welcoming over 100 interns from 17 partner universities and sponsoring over 15 local sports teams and athletes. We also support R&D initiatives and scientific conferences, acting as a proud Gold Sponsor of GreenTech Challenge, the largest national green innovation programme for the promotion of new ideas that address significant contemporary environmental challenges, including the achievement of sustainable tourism.

CONCERNED ABOUT THE PLANET

Sustainable development lies at the heart of Mitsis Hotels and we continuously aim to minimise our environmental impact and protect the biodiversity of our destinations. In the context of our environmental programme ‘LIFE, our green project’, we set targets to minimise energy and water consumption, and organise a series of environmental initiatives, including beach cleanings and tree plantings, with the participation of our employees and guests. Our Greek-themed restaurants feature zero carbon footprint dishes, made with organic ingredients from local producers and zero waste in their preparation. We also collaborate with WWF Greece for the ‘Adopt a Beach’ and ‘Hotel Kitchen’ programmes, for the protection of coastal areas and the reduction of food waste, respectively. 

For our continued sustainability efforts, we are recognised with a series of awards and certifications for all our hotels, including Bike Friendly, Blue Flag, Green Key, ISO and Travelife Gold, along with our distinction in the ‘Most Sustainable Companies in Greece’ for 2022. Mitsis Hotels also publishes its annual CSR Report that contains the sum of the Group’s social contribution and environmental practices.
